Vive la France

We have just spent two wonderful weeks with our friends, Philippe, Steph and Fred, who were visiting from France.

Their presence reminded us why we love France and everything French so much! Their cute expressions like “c’est vachement bon”, “tu rigoles” and so many others, are quite endearing and sometimes funny.

Take the expression “c’est vachement bon”, for example. Literally translated it means “it’s cow-ly good” since a “vache” is a cow.

They found some of our expressions in French Canadian just as funny and they even adopted some local slang such as “ben”, instead of “bien”, “dret” instead of “droit”… You get the picture!

Our friends discovered a Canadian version of a “parfumerie” while here. Late one night, while driving them back to their bed and breakfast in the country, my wife, Anne-Marie, ran over a small skunk, or “mouffette” which was sitting in the middle of the road. Skunks don’t exist in France so it was a highly perfumed experience. Then, when they finally arrived at the bed and breakfast, they were greeted at the gate by 3 small raccoons which were also sitting in the middle of the road. Fortunately, none was hurt since the car had slowed to a crawl in order to enter the driveway.

Plans are now underway to go visit our friends in France next summer. It will be our turn to re-experience life in the City of Lights since Philippe lives and works in Paris. The last time that Anne-Marie and I were in Paris was more than 20 years ago. Who knows what wonderful adventures await us!
